Alcohol Awareness Month – April 2009

By Madison

April 2009 is coming to a close but news about alcohol and addiction recovery continues to go strong. Since embarking on my journey of sobriety I have made it a part of my own personal mission to find out as much as I can about alcoholism, recovery and living a life of sobriety.

Just when I think I have seen every website and blog related to alcohol addiction and sobriety, another great resource appears. I came across ‘The Second Road’ organization after reading a guest post for Alcohol Awareness Month by Jason Schwartz in which he details his journey through alcoholism to sobriety. A must read for anyone looking for some inspiration with their own sobriety.

The Second Road Website is an amazing resource that I would like to share with you and a great find for me. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Madison. Just checking in. The site looks great.

I was just thinking about fellowship. The disease of alcoholism doesn’t have a chance at victory if we stick together. Fellowship is wonderful, but it is not the only benefit of spending time with others. I truly believe that God talks to me through other people. If you are ready to listen you can hear it too. Also, through fellowship a friend can tell when you’re out of whack before you might even realize it. I’ve had people ask me “Are you alright?” and I was kind of offended, but really questions like that saved me from moving too far away from the solution deeper into my disease.

Thanks again for your support and for this magnificent website.

I agree Paul, relationships with others are extremely important especially in sobriety. It can help immensely to have some one else’s point of view, friendship or simply to tell you that you are doing a good job. Alcoholism leads to low self-esteem, lack of confidence and anxiety. When you quit drinking, the support of others is paramount to your success. Joining A.A or Women for Sobriety is a great way to gain this type of fellowship. I have not actually done this myself but I do have a very strong support system around me, and I doubt that I would have experienced the level of success in sobriety that I have if I didn’t have them.
Thank you for visiting RP again!
