Not Drinking Alcohol At Christmas Time

Drinking Alcohol at Christmas ~ I’m not missing out on anything

At this point in my sobriety I don’t feel like I am going without by not drinking alcohol, thankfully 7 years on from quitting drinking alcohol I no longer crave the escape I once did, infact, I even purchased a few alcohol themed gifts for friends who do not have a problem with alcohol. I certainly thought about the irony when I was buying the gift but I was able to reflect on it like someone from afar, it just didn’t hurt me the way it once would have.

My Attitude To Alcohol Has Changed Over The Years

What I want you know is that I feel free from addiction and for much of my life I never thought that would be possible. I will be surrounded by others who will enjoy a few drinks this Christmas but I won’t be feeling hard done by like I used too, instead I will feel liberated and in control of my life which is very different to how I felt the first few years during sobriety, my attitude to alcohol has changed.

I recognize that when I was drinking it wasn’t really about having a good time (although I did have some good times), I was trying to feel different, trying to ignore a bunch of crappy issues I had ignored for a long time, although I had some good times ultimately I felt like crap.

I Don’t Go To Places Where Drinking Is The Main Attraction

I should point out that I’m not with a crowd of people who are hardcore drinkers, and I don’t go to places where drinking is the main attraction, drinking doesn’t hold any interest for me now.
